Motherhood is juggling life’s ‘firsts’ and ‘lasts’

I have been called a lot of names — daughter, sister, athlete, wife, editor (those are just a smattering of the few good ones) — but being Mom has been the most difficult but rewarding of all. Though it takes a while to figure it out, the old cliché is true. The days are long, but the years are short. What they don’t tell you is that the adage doesn’t apply to the first three months with an around-the-clock newborn — those, my friend, are brutal. My husband and I wouldn’t trade this parenting adventure with our three rugrats for anything. On second thought, we might be willing to negotiate one kid in exchange for a maid service.
