More than a debate about murals

It’s unscientific, but the State-Journal.com reader poll about mural regulation in Frankfort is close to accurate, I expect. Which is to say that the community couldn’t be more divided: half concerned about murals, half who range from incredulous to amused that the city would temporarily ban them, and a sliver who don’t care. If we had the ability to drill down with poll respondents, I expect the fault line would be largely generational: my age bracket (early 50s) and older offended, and younger folks accepting of edgy artistic expression. A smart community would give some deference to the latter, who will be around a lot longer than the rest of us and who, arguably, have more to gain or lose from Frankfort’s economic and cultural vitality, or lack of the same.
